REPLACING BOTH FLANGE BLOCKS
- Trailing Arm Removed -
Pull out flange blocks with Special Tool 33 3 050.
Important: Push collar in sleeve above flange
block.

Coat new flange blocks with diluted Cresta,
lubricating oil II or relaxed water.
Pull in flange blocks with Special Tool 33 3 050.

Installation: Collar end of each silent block faces
out.

If it is necessary to correct the rear axle toe due
to a summation of unfavorable tolerances, eccentric
silent (flange) blocks can be installed.
Important: Never try to "eliminate" changes
in the axle geometry, which were caused in an
accident, with this measure.

 
Check rear axle alignment optically 32 00 054.
Determine correction value.
Example:
Actual value (left, rear)........+ 2.5 mm (0.098´´)
Specified value (left, rear)....+ 2.0 mm (0.078´´)
____________________________________
Correction value...................- 0.5 mm (0.020´´)

 
Remove rear wheel 36 10 300.
Disconnect trailing arm on outside (1); only
loosen inside mounting bolt.

Pull out silent block with Special Tool 33 3 050.

Mark trailing arm on trailing arm eye in the
horizontal.

Refer to diagram to side for pertinent turning
angle value.
Draw lines between numbers for toe correction
on both sides of silent block.

Coat silent block with diluted Cresta, lubricating
oil II or relaxed water.
Mount on trailing arm drawn line aligns with mark
on trailing arm and pull in with Special Tool
33 3 050.
Mount trailing arm and measure rear axle toe.

If correction on outer silent block is not sufficient,
an eccentric silent block can also be installed
inside.
This requires removing and installing trailing arm
33 32 000.

33 3 040.

in with Special Tool 33 3 040.

Longer part of inner bushing always faces
center of car.

Trailing arm removed - Clamp puller 23 0 080
in vise.
Place trailing arm with Special Tool 33 3 040
and fitting bush as counterbearing in puller
23 0 080.
Press out rubber mount.

Coat new rubber mount with diluted Crests,
lubricating oil II or relaxed water and press
in with puller 23 0 080 using Special Tool
33 3 040 and fitting bush.
