Vehicles before change point in 1982 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR AXLE CARRIER ASSY: Remove and install parking brake lever 34 41 000. Remove and install primary and final mufflers 18 12 000. Draw off brake fluid through brake fluid tank with a syringe reserved for this purpose. Installation: Adjust parking brake 34 10 014.  34 41 000 18 12 000 34 10 014

Lift car on platform. Pull parking brake cables out of protective tube. Detach propeller shaft and brake lines. Disconnect plug for pad wear indicator on right caliper. Remove wires from wire clips on trailing arm. Installation: Bleed rear wheel brakes. Tightening torque¹). ¹) See Specifications

Lower car until rear wheels are on shop floor. Support rear axle carrier and final drive from underneath with a floor jack. Place a wooden beam on floor jack to help. Detach final drive at rubber mount. Installation: Tightening torque¹). ¹) See Specifications

Detach spring strut absorber at trailing arm. Installation: Tighten bolts with car in normal position¹). ¹) See Specifications

Lift car. Run out rear axle. |  |

Remove and install propeller shaft assembly 26 11 000. Remove and install parking brake lever. Draw off brake fluid through tank with a syringe used exclusively with brake fluid. Remove float housing for this purpose. Installation: Add brake fluid* and bleed brakes. 18 12 012 26 11 000 * See Specifications

Support final drive with floor jack. Detach left and right push struts at floor plate. Unscrew nut on mount. Installation: Tightening torque*. * See Specifications

Pull off wires on speedometer pulse transmitter. Unscrew mounting bolt on rubber mount. Installation: Tightening torque*. * See Specifications

Detach left and right spring struts at trailing arms. Lower rear axle carrier. Pull parking brake cables out of tube. Installation: Tighten mounting bolts with loaded wheels (car lowered). Tightening torque*. * See Specifications
