In the repair sector each bearing journal is to be fitted with one red and blue bearing shell regardless of the crankcase and/or crankshaft color code. Make sure that all red or blue bearing shells are always in the same plane, i.e. installed facing up or down. Check bearing play¹) with Type PG 1 Plastigage. a) Measure each bearing separately. b) Bearing surface dry of oil. c) Crankshaft at TDC for measuring. d) Bearing cap at specified torque¹). e) Don´t turn crankshaft while measuring. f) Read bearing play¹) on width of flattened Plastigage using scale supplied. ¹) See Specifications | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Crankshafts are available in two versions due to the main bearing journal tolerances. - Double classification: red/blue - Triple classification: yellow/green/white The version installed in the car originally should be used again. Crankshafts are surface treated and therefore may only be reground in the plant. Reground crankshafts are marked with stripes of paint.
