Install bearing shells in crankcase according to color code of the crankcase. Install both bearing shells according to the color code of the crankshaft, if the crankcase color code is washed off. If the bearing shells supplied with a replacement crankshaft do not conform with tolerances (color code) of the crankcase, they must be exchanged in Parts. | |
Install bearing shells in the bearing caps according to the crankshaft's color code. | |
Place Plastigage (Type PG-1) on crankshaft wiped clean of oil and tighten bearing cap bolts to correct torque*. Do not turn the crankshaft. Source for Plastigage: Cartool Alfred-Brehm-Str. 5 D-85053 Ingolstadt Remove bearing caps. Read bearing play* from supplied scale by measuring width of flattened Plastigage. Correct bearing play, if necessary, by installing new bearing shells, beraring shells with other machined size or with other color code. * See Specifications |
