REMOVING AND INSTALLING UPPER AND LOWER TIMING CASE COVERS Remove upper timing case cover 11 14 100. Remove chain tensioner piston 11 31 090. Remove fan 11 52 000. Stacken drive belt by loosening alternator, vane pump, air pump and compressor. Installation: Tighten drive belts - standard belt must give under thumb pressure applied midway between two pulleys by 5 to 10 mm (0.197 to 0.394´´) and open flank belts by 2 to 3 mm (0.080 to 0.120´´). Remove guard. Hold flywheel with Special Tool 11 2 100. Use Special Tool 11 2 120 for automatic transmission. | |
Unscrew nut¹) and pull off vibration damper with hub. Important: Watch correct location of key (1). Installation: If hub has serious scoring, install seal that iis sealing lip is in front of or behind scored groove. ¹) See Specifications | |
Remove timing case cover. Installtion: Coat mating surfaces between oil pan and crankcase with Atmosit or Curil K 2. Important: Tensioner piston take-up must be in oil pocket. | |

Unscrew and swing alternator aside. Unscrew bolt (1). Loosen bolts (2 and 3). | |
Unscrew power steering pump and remove bolts (5). Installation: Do not tension console while installing - use spacers (4), see 32 41 131. 32 41 131 | |
Swing away and tie down console. Unscrew oil pan bolts. | |
Unscrew bolts on timing case cover and oil pan. Only loosen other oil pan bolts. Installation: Mount TDC transmitter (6) and suspension eye (7). Check length of bolts. | |
Pry oil pan gasket off timing case cover carefully with a knife. If oil pan gasket is damaged, remove oil pan 11 13 000. 11 13 000 | |
Take off timing case cover. Installation: Coat mating surfaces between oil pan and crankcase with a brush-on universal sealing compound/Three Bond Silicone 1207**. Important! Take-up for tensioner piston must be in oil pocket. ** Source: HWB |
