INSTALLING AUTOMATIC
ANTENNA AT REAR RIGHT
Disconnect battery ground lead.
Apply masking tape around area for hole to avoid damage on paint finish from
drilling burrs and to make marking location of hole easier.
Distance 1 = 52 mm (2.047").
Distance 2 = 19 mm (0.748").

Punch mark intersection point and drill a 22 mm (0.866") dia, hole.
Note:
Pull masking tape off of hole carefully after drilling to avoid pulling off paint edges
around hole.
Deburr hole and coat edges with zinc dust paint.
Remove burrs from trunk floor plate to avoid rust.

Remove trim panel (1).

Insert M 6 x 12 bolts in antenna housing.
Mount antenna holder (1) and ground wire (2) with nut (3) and washer (4) on
antenna (5).

Insert M 6 x 12 bolt in antenna housing.
Mount antenna holder (1) on antenna (4) with nut (2) and washer (3).
Only screw on nut (2) finger tight.
Install nut (5) on holder.

Install antenna.
Installed Order:
1 = Nut
2 = Adapter
3 = Insulator
4 = Rear right side panel
5 = Seal
6 = Brass ring
7 = Antenna
Note:
Screw on nut (1) only finger tight.

Mount antenna holder with M 6 x 16 bolts and lock washers.
Tighten nut (1).

Tighten nut with special wrench (1).

Unscrew mounting bolts on right rear seat.
Take rear seat out of car.

Unscrew bolts.
Take off entrance rail strip.
Detach carpet on door member.

Unscrew bolts.
Lift out speaker mask with speaker.
Remove footwell trim.

Unscrew bolts and place trim panel in the footwell.

Antenna Wire Routing Sketch:
1 = Automatic antenna
2 = Connection for RHD (red wire)
3 = Antenna jack connection
4 = Radio connection (white wire)
5 = Connection for LHD (red wire)

Connect antenna wire (1) and plug (2) on antenna.
Route harness between trim and side panel.

Connect white wire on "automatic antenna" connection and antenna wire (1)
on "antenna" jack.

Connect red wire in "SA" (= special equipment) connection.

Checking Function:
Antenna should run out when turning on radio.
Antenna should run in when turning off radio.
Note:
Radio cannot be turned on when ignition key is turned to "0".
 
Service:
The telescope should be clean and given a light coat of grease at regular
intervals.
BMW dealers have suitable cleaning and lubricating products.
