To prevent stress in Giubo coupling and therefore vibration and drumming, use Special Tool 26 1 011 for removal and installation of propeller shaft. Unscrew bolts. Installation: Use stop nuts only once. | |
Tighten Special Tool 26 1 011 until bolts can be removed by hand. | |
Installation: To prevent stress in Giubo coupling only tighten nuts (never bolts). Tightening torque¹). Tighten nuts before removing special tool. ¹) See Specifications | |
Remove heat shield. | |
Detach center bearing. Installation: Preload center bearing forward by distance (A) = about 2 mm (0.080´´). | |
Bend down propeller shaft and pull out of centering pin on transmission. Important: Don´t disconnect propeller shaft at slide. | |
Installation: Check center, lubricating with Longterm 2 if necessary. Replace a damaged center. | |
Engage reverse gear. Remove circlip (1). Take off washer (2). Pull out selector rod (3). | |
Push back locking sleeve (1). Move selector shaft to 3rd gear position. Knock out pin upward far enough that selector rod joint can be pulled off of shaft. | |
Lubricate joint and bearing bushing with Longterm 2.@@: | |

Pull out shift rod (3). Note: Transmission 260: Insert shift rod from the left side as seen looking forward in car. Transmission 265: Insert from the right side. 26 11 000 | |
Push back the locking sleeve. | |
Drive out pin. Pull out shift rod with joint. | |
Installation: Lubricate bearing sleeve and shift rod joint with Molykote Longterm 2. Note: Transmission 260: Bearing sleeve is offset to the right. Transmission 265: Bearing sleeve is offset to the left. |
