Apply Special Tool 26 1 011. Unscrew bolts. Installation: Use stop nuts only once. | |
Tighten Special Tool 26 1 011 until bolts can be removed by hand. | |
Installation: Tighen nuts specified torque¹) with a standard 19 mm socket and torque wrench. Important: Only tighten nuts (never bolts) to prevent stress in Giubo coupling. Remove special tool strap only after tightening the nuts. ¹) See Specifications | |
Remove heat shield. Detach center bearing bracket. Bend down propeller shaft and pull it off of centering pin. Installation: Preload center bearing bracket forward by distance (A) = 2 mm (0.080´´). | |
Bend down propeller shaft and pull it off of centering pin on transmission. Installation: Checking centering, lubricating with Longterm 2 if necessary. Replace a damaged center. Align propeller shaft with Special Tool 26 1 000 (see 26 11 000). 26 11 000 | |
Support transmission. Detach speedometer shaft. Detach cross member at body. Lower transmission to front axle carrier. | |
Detach holder (1) at clutch housing. Detach clutch slave cylinder, leaving line connected. Installation: Bleeder screw faces down. Disconnect backup light wires. Version with Contact Switch for 4th Gear: Pull off wires. | |
Detach transmission at clutch housing and take out to the rear. | |
Installation: Position release lever with the clutch slave cylinder. Align clutch pressure bearing. Fill lubricating groove (N) with Molykote Longterm 2. Non-conformance could cause bearing to seize on guide sleeve. Engage gear before attaching transmission. Guide transmission guide sleeve into pressure bearing carefully. Turn output flange until input shaft can slide into drive plate. Remove clutch slave cylinder again. Tighten transmission. |
