REPLACING COOLANT TEMPERATURE SWITCH
Switch must keep EGR valve shut at coolant
temperature below 45°C (113°F).
Drain some of coolant.
Installation: Bleed cooling system 17 00 039.
Disconnect wires.
Remove temperature sensor.
Refer to 13 60 009 for test data.

REMOVING AND INSTALLING/CHECKING
COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
The temperature sensor measures engine
temperature and sends this information to the
control unit in the form of a resistance value.
The resistance value drops as temperature
rises (NTC).
1 = Plug connection
2 = Housing
3 = NTC resistor

Removing and Installing:
Pull off plug (1).
Unscrew temperature sensor.
Installation:
Tightening torque*.

Checking:
Connect Jetronic test lead 61 1 440.
Check nominal value* with ohmmeter.
To check the entire temperature range, remove
and place temperature sensor in a water bath
heated to testing temperature.
Check resistance with an ohmmeter*.
