Vehicles after change point in 1982 ADJUSTING ENGINE IDLE SPEED AND CO LEVEL Requirements for All Adjustments: Engine at operating temperature, i.e. oil temperature at least 60°C (140°F). Ignition timing and valve clearance okay. Air filter cartridge in good condition. All electric consuming equipment switched off. BMW Service Tester connected to operating instructions.
1) Enging Idle Speed*: Adjust the engine idle speed with screw (1). * See Specifications and Nominal Value Microfiche
2) CO Test: Make sure that there are no faults in the engine, ignition or fuel injection (see troubleshooting) before correcting the CO level. Remove cap (1) with Special Tool 13 1 011. Adjust the CO level* with Special Tool 13 1 100 applied on the air control screw in the air flow sensor. * See Specifications and Nominal Value Microfiche
Synchronizing: Requirement - push rod adjustment is correct (see Removing and Installing Throttle Valve Housing - 13 54 030). Pull off caps (1). Measure and note intake vacuum at all six throttle valve necks. Leave caps (1) on throttle valve necks not being measured. 13 54 030
Pull off caps (1) and connect vacuum tester (M 21 of BMW Service Tester). Adjust the intake vacuum of each throttle valve neck to the same valve at nominal idle speed* (screw 3) with screw (4), unsing a 7 mm wrench socket. Max. vacuum deviation: ± 5 mbar. Install new anti-tamping locks (2) after finishing adjustments. Then recheck engine idle speed* and CO level*, correcting if necessary. * See Specifications and Nominal Value Microfiche |
