RREPLACING EXTRA FAN TEMPERATURE SWITCH
Up to 1978 Models:
Drain coolant.
Disconnect wires and unscrew temperature
switch.
Installation: Replace seal.
Torque values¹).
Bleed cooling system - 17 00 039.

Testing:
Connect ohmmeter (e.g. BMW service test unit
M 06).
Coolant temperature: < 92°C (198°F) = oo ohms.
Coolant temperature: > 96°C (205°F) = 0 ohms.
 
From 1978 Models:
Drain coolant.
Pull off wires.
Installation: Don´t mix up wires.
Large flat male plug for extra fan speed I.
Small flat male plug for extra fan speed II.

Unscrew temperature switch.
Installation: Replace seal.
Torque values¹).
Fill and bleed cooling system - 17 00 039.

Testing:
a) Stage I (large plug connections)
Connect ohmmeter (e.g. BMW service test unit
M 06).
Coolant temperature: < 86°C (187°F) = oo ohms.
Coolant temperature: > 97°C (207°F) = 0 ohms.
b) Stage II (small plug connections)
Connect ohmmeter (e.g. BMW service test unit
M 06).
Coolant temperature: < 95°C (203°F) = oo ohms.
Coolant temperature: > 106°C (223°F) = 0 ohms.
