Install cover plate mounting screws in pinion. Pull out pinion. | |
Remove and install tail panel trim 51 47 240. Install emergency winder (1) and turn anticlockwise with spark plug wrench. Turn out drive cables completely. 51 47 240 | |
Installation: First guide short end (as from color mark) into outlet tube. Lubricate drive cables with a light coat of grease. | |
Installation: Run in drive cable up to end of color mark. End of color mark should be at center of drive shaft. Mark (M) on large pinion must be opposite outer edge of housing and pinion must lock in bore (F). Steel sun roof must be closed. Connect drive pinion on drive shaft in this position. | |
Press guide tube (1) and outlet tube (2) out of motor. Installation: Make sure tubes fit tight. | |
Unscrew upper and lower nuts. Pull off central plug. Remove motor and gearbox. | |
From 1980 Models: Disconnect ground wire at battery. Remove and install front roof liner plate 51 44 150. Steel sun roof must be closed. Manual Operation: Unscrew nut (1) and turn drive shaft (2) with a socket wrench to close sun roof. 51 44 150 | |
Disconnect plugs, unscrew screws and take off motor/gearbox unit. | |
Installation: Mark of switching gear (1) must be opposite mark of control gear (2). Lubricate teeth of pinion, control gear and switching gear with grease. | |
Adjusting Motor/Gearbox Unit: Unscrew nut (1) and make adjustment with a socket wrench. Tighten nuts to 450 ± 35 Ncm (39 ± 3 in.lbs.). | |

Adjusting Motor/Gearbox Unit: Unscrew nut (1) and adjust with a socket wrench as described above. Tighten nut to torque of 450 ± 35 Ncm (39 ± 3 in. lbs.). Check function. |
