Vehicles before change point in 1982 OVERHAULING FRONT CALIPER (use repair kit) Remove and install front caliper - 34 11 020. Removw brake pads. Lift out clamping ring (1) and rubber cap (2). Installation: Apply light coat of ATE cylinder paste on inside of rubber caps. 34 11 020
Tighten one piston with Special Tool 34 1 050. Place an about 8 mm (0.315´´) thick plate (hard wood, hard felt or similar material) in caliper recess to protect piston. Remove piston with compressed air applied through connenting bore. Important: Be careful, since 10 bar (140 psi) of air pressure gives a force of about 1250 N (275 lbs.).
Plug open piston bore with a sealing plate and press second piston out of caliper. Again place a plate in caliper recess to protect piston. Perhaps use locally manufactured tools (sealing plate and clamp ring) from ATE. Third and fourth pistons are removed in the same manner.
Remove seal carefully with a plastic needle. Clean cylinder bores and parts with spirits of wine, and dry them with compressed air. Check cylinder bores, pistons and flange surfaces for damage thoroughly. Machining of cylinders and pistons is not permissible. Installation: Apply a light coat of ATE brake cylinder paste to all parts before installing. Important: Don´t cant pistons. |
