Vehicles before change point in 1982 ADJUSTING PRESSURE POINT Requirements: Steering gear as well as bearings and joints of steering column in perfect condition. Point front wheels straight ahead. Remove cotter pin and unscrew castle nut. Press center tie rod off of steering drop arm with Special Tool 32 2 070. Installation: Tightening torque¹). Determine straight ahead position by taking half of total steering wheel turns. Turn steering wheel to left about 1 turn. Install friction meter 00 2 000, turn wheel clockwise past point of pressure and read friction¹). ¹) See Specifications | |
To adjust, turn steering wheel from straight ahead position anticlockwise about 1 turn. Loosen locknut (1). Turn adjusting screw (2) until specified friction is given when passing over point of pressure¹). ¹) See Specifications | |

Set steering gear to straight ahead position (marks on spindle and housing aligned). | |
Take off BMW emblem. Turn steering wheel counterclockwise about 1 turn. After mounting friction torque meter 00 2 000 turn steering wheel clockwise past the pressure point and read friction torque*. * See Specifications | |
Adjusting: Turn steering wheel counterclockwise about 1 turn from straight ahead position. Loosen nut (1) on steering gear and turn adjusting screw (2) until specified friction torque* is reached while passing the pressure point. Installation: Tightening torque* for locknut. * See Specifications |
