REPLACING BEARINGS FOR ALL TRANSMISSION SHAFTS
Remove and install transmission case front section
23 11 010.
Remove and install gear assembly 23 21 500.
Press speedometer gear (1), support disc (2),
grooved ball bearing (3) and thrust ring (4) off
of output shaft.

Take up play of grooved ball bearing between
case and thrust ring.
Measure case depth.
A = 13.2 mm (0.520´´).

Measure depth of thrust ring.
B = 6.0 mm (0.236´´).

Measure thickness of grooved ball bearing.
C = 19.0 mm (0.748´´).
Determine thickness of shim D.
A 13.2 mm (0.520´´)
+ B 6.0 mm (0.236´´)

D 0.2 mm (0.008´´)
Install grooved ball bearing and shim in thrust
ring.

Press grooved ball bearing (5) off of layshaft.

Install gear assembly.
Attach transmission case front section.
Install circlip (1).
Measure distance between circlip and grooved
ball bearing inner race, and take up play with
shims.

Take up play of grooved ball bearings on input
shaft and layshaft to the guide flange.
Input Shaft:
A = 7.0 mm (0.275´´).
Layshaft:
B = 4.6 mm (0.181´´).

Measure distances C and D without gasket.
C = 7.5 mm (0.295´´) for input shaft.
D = 5.3 mm (0.209´´) for layshaft.
Important: Use 0.2 mm (0.008´´) in calculations
for thickness of gasket.
Input Shaft:
C 7.5 mm (0.295´´)
- A 7.0 mm (0.275´´)

+ 0.2 mm (0.008´´) gasket thickness

0.7 mm (0.028´´) shim thickness
Layshaft:
D 5.1 mm (0.201´´)
- B 4.6 mm (0.181´´)

- 0.1 ... 0.2 mm (0.004 ... 0.008´´) play

Hold shims in position with grease.
Attach guide flange.
Install bolts with a sealing compound.
