CHECKING/REPLACING PULSE TRANSMITTER IN DISTRIBUTOR
Important: Stop engine and turn off ignition
prior to performing any work on a transistor
ignition system. DANGER!
The pulse transmitter produces a speed-controlled
alternating current of approx. 0.3 to 100 V. This
control voltage is applied to trigger the ignition
spark.
A) Checking:
Pull off transmitter wire from control unit on
distributor and connect BMW service test unit
according to operating instructions.
Start engine.
Observe oscillograph on BMW service test unit.
The pulse transmitter is defective, if there is no
voltage reading.
If the voltage curve is inversed, the pulse transmitter
is connected wrong (wires mixed up).

Important: Align rotor and stator teeth, and
determine gap (A).
A = 0.35 to 0.70 mm (0.014 to 0.028´´).
Remove circlip (2).
Remove expander (3).

opposite each other.
Important: Dowel pin (5).
Installation: Opening in rotor must align with
groove in distributor shaft.
