REMOVING AND INSTALLING DISTRIBUTOR
A) BMW 630 i:
Remove distributor cap. Disconnect wire at terminal
1. Detach vacuum hose. Pull off distributor
rotor and remove dust cap. Install distributor
rotor again.
Set piston in cylinder no. 1 to TDC, i.e. distributor
rotor aligns with notch in distribtor housing.
Unscrew mounting screw and pull out distributor.

Installation: Turn distributor rotor anticlockwise
away from notch in distributor housing by distance
(A) = approx. 3.5 cm (1 3/8´´).
Guide distributor drive into camshaft drive.
Adjust ignition timing 12 11 004.

B) BMW 633 i:
Important: Stop engine and turn off ignition
prior to performing any work on a transistor
ignition system. DANGER!
Pull off vacuum hoses for advance (1) and retard
(2).
California Version and 49 State High Altitude
Version models with an automatic transmission
have only retard hose (2).
Connection on vacuum box is plugged.
Loosen bolt (3).
Remove distributor cap.

Position piston in cylinder 1 to TDC, i.e. rotor
arm aligns with notch in distributor housing and
mark on vibration damper with cast tab on timing
case cover.

Unscrew plug mounting screw (4) and pull off
plug.
Pull out distributor.

Installation: Turn distributor rotor anticlockwise
approx. 3.5 cm (1 3/8´´) = distance (A) from
notch in distributor hosing.
Note installed position of vacuum box; approx.
90° to valve cover.
Guide distributor into camshaft drive.
Adjust ignition timing 12 11 004.
