INSTALLING M-SYSTEM REAR SPOILER
Painting Information:
The panel of a rear spoiler is supplied with a
prime coat and intermediate paint coat, so that
only the final coat of paint has to be sprayed
on.
Method: BMW synthetic painting (see BMW
painting brochure).
BMW acrylic paint + 20 % BMW softface
additive.
Caution!
The maximum paint baking temperature is
50°C (122°F).
Pasting Instructions:
- Clean pertinent sufaces to remove grease.
- Adhesive tape must be installed at room
temperature. Heat parts to be pasted on to
40°C (104°F) for sufficient adhesion and
press on parts at least 5 to 10 seconds.

 
Unscrew screws.
Remove and disconnect tail light assembly.

Unscrew screws and open lock.
Disconnect retaining strap and take out the
toolbox.

Pull off trim on left and right sides.

Holes must be drilled in the trunk lid of cars
without a standard rear spoiler.
Install approx. 30 mm (1.181´´) wide tape on
trunk lid over the entire width at distance K
to the trunk lid´s lower edge.
Mark location of holes from the center and
lower edge of the trunk lid (with a measuring
tape).
Punch mark centers and drill 6.5 mm (0.256´´)
diameter holes.
Open up center holes to 10 mm (0.394´´)
diameter with a 12 mm (0.472´´) dia. drill bit.
Pull off tape carefully.
Deburr and coat edges of holes with zinc dust
paint.

Cars with Standard Rear Spoiler:
Remove plastic nuts in trunk lid and take off
the standard spoiler.
Note:
The spoiler is cemented on the trunk lid and
it can be loosened by heating the cement film.

Apply masking tape and mark locations of
outside bores (3 and 4) (see picture 630 51 570
for dimensions).
Punch centers and drill holes with a 6.5 mm
(0.256´´) dia. spiral drill.
Deburr and coat edges of holes with zinc dust
paint.

Paint the panel (see painting information).
Install strips of adhesive tape (see pasting
instructions).
1 = 130 mm (5.118´´) long
2 = 270 mm (10.630´´) long
3 = 160 mm (6.299´´) long
4 = 1220 mm (48.031´´) long

Pull off protective sheet on adhesive tape and
mount panel on the rear spoiler.
Screw on panel with six screws.

Insert the "M-Technic" rear spoiler in the
holes and screw on with hexagon nuts (middle)
and hexagon head screws (outside).
Note:
Don´t forget the insulators!
Paste protective sheets (1) on the rear side
panels.

If necessary because of additional weight on
the trunk lid through installation of the rear
spoiler, increase the preload of the torsion bars
by adjusting it to the second catch (this
requires using Special Tools 51 2 100).
