ADJUSTING WHEEL BEARING PLAY
Remove and install end cap 31 21 050.
Remove cotter pin and unscrew castle nut.


31 21 050

Tighten castle nut to 30 ... 33 Nm (22 ... 24 ft.lbs.)
while constantly turning wheel hub.
This will settle taper rollers and bearing inner races.
It will also force out excessive grease causing play.
Turn bearing assembly at least 2 turns in tightened
state.
In so doing the castle nut must not be loosened
or tightened further.

Loosen castle nut until there is axial play, whereby
the hub must also turn.
Tighten castle nut with max. 3 Nm (2 ft.lbs.)
and lock with cotter pin.
Checking Axial Bearing Play:
Notched disc (1) must move without noticeable
resistance.
